Xerox – ProcessFusionInc.
Today I am spending a part of my morning at a Xerox Expo. This is really part of trying to keep pace with some of what’s going on in the work of technology. These are my notes from the various seminars and things that I listened to and learned about.
This was about the best presentation I have ever seen that explained some of the basics about Cloud computing. Oscar did not speak at all about ProcessFusion, but rather helped everyone gain an understanding around how the Cloud works.

What is Cloud?
Computing as a service over the Internet
- Elastic Resources – scale up or down quickly and easily to meet demand
- Pay for use – metered service usage so you only pay for what you use
- Self Service – All the IT resources you need with self-service access
Common terms to describe cloud
SaaS – software as a service – consume it
PaaS – platform as a service – build on it
IaaS – infrastructure as a service – migrate to it (hosting)
Cloud Deployment Types
Hybrid cloud – ie. Exchange Server in the cloud, but in-house Active Directory managing accounts
Cloud is Expanding
Cloud Market Size expected to increase every year – $35 Billion projected for 2013
Benefit of Cloud
Agility and Utility
The Pace of Change is Accelerating
Took telephone service 100 years to reach 100 million people
Mobile phone took 10 years to reach 100 million people
Facebook took three years to reach 100 million people
Can move paper files into electronic files, AND, move into the cloud!
What about Office 365? Share files directly, without making copies.
Are we ready for Cloud?
Information Security & Integrity
Internet Bandwidth and Redundancy – do we have enough and are we resilient?
Data Sovereignty – where is our data stored, and are we legally allowed to store it in that location?
