This was a recipe for fun! We were privileged to host the youth group for a little bit of a BBQ night Saturday night. At 4:00 PM we got out some nice heavy duty poly, laid it out in the park behind our place, and filled it with baby shampoo and water. We had kids from Grade 7 to just graduated Grade 12 laughing and sliding! After some good wet fun, on a gorgeous day, we moved to some Ultimate Frisbee and some playground playing.
Pastor Byron (the incredible and amazing youth pastor) and his wife Kim, and their kids brought over hamburgers, hot dogs, and some gluten-free potato chips, and even DQ Dilly Bars and Ice Cream Sandwiches! and we hosted the kids for the evening. After supper, and some good visiting, it was back to the park and playground for more games – I am definitely showing my almost 40 age, running around playing a game that’s a cross between football and frisbee! After I played for another hour or so, it was time for an iced tea break, and I started a campfire in the fire pit. The rest of the evening, until 10:00PMish was spent either playing games or visiting and roasting marshmallows around the campfire.
It was great to get to know some of the kids a little bit more, and start to put even more names to faces. And the kids were awesome at including everyone! There were a couple of new faces, and everyone made sure they all got to know each other, and even had Josh involved. (Who is still three years younger than most in the youth group).
Huge thank you to Byron, and the kids, and especially Alex, Markson, and Elizabeth – who just returned from holidays this afternoon, after a long drive, and still came over and hung out for the evening!
Looking forward to having everyone over again – and I’ll have to be in better shape!
