Yell at the Tech Guy

June 26, 2012

Ask a panel of district-level IT professionals the tough policy and support questions. Share your views and hear their insights. Prepare to be surprised.

Okay, this was interesting. I assumed there were IT professionals at the front, but they are teachers. Funny to see how nasty other teachers are to teachers who are being IT professionals.

I’m curious why people always treat it as an US vs. THEM. Whatever happened to working together?

They had a Poll Everywhere back channel going, and there were some nasty questions, like “What’s with the God complex that most technicians have?”
Whoa. Whoa. Whoa.

It surprises me how people aren’t always fully professional with each other. Regardless of whether they are technicians or teachers, we all work for schools, and we all help education students, and besides, we’re all human beings. Is it a respect issue? Or is it a culture issue?

Some questions that were asked:

Why do you only allow one browser and not all of them?
Why do you lock down machines?
Do you give teachers install rights?
Does cloning computers really work?

Some people are very upset and very angry. I guess it’s common all over the world. We still need to find a way to bridge the IT/ET divide.

This session was really just a gripe session or attempting to explain gripes, there has to be a better way of doing this.

I’m outta here.
